Protected Classes Under Federal Fair Housing Law

Texas Fair Housing Act
Under the Texas Fair Housing Act (Texas Property Code, Chapter 301), it is illegal to discriminate in the sale, lease, or rental of housing, or in the provision of brokerage services, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, or familial status.
The Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division enforces the Texas Fair Housing Act and investigates complaints of housing discrimination. Additional protected classes under Texas law may include further categories based on local ordinances.
What We Will Never Do
In our practice of real estate, we will never:
- Refuse to show, sell, or rent housing based on a protected class
- Steer buyers or renters toward or away from neighborhoods based on protected characteristics
- Discriminate in the terms, conditions, or privileges of sale, rental, or financing
- Make, print, or publish any advertisement that indicates a preference, limitation, or discrimination based on a protected class
- Refuse to provide brokerage services based on any protected characteristic
Filing a Fair Housing Complaint
If you believe you have experienced housing discrimination, you have the right to file a complaint. Complaints may be filed with:

Complaints must generally be filed within one year of the alleged discriminatory act.
